Dr. Judith Freidenberg
Founder and director of the Anthropology of the Immigrant Life Course Research Program. Dr. Freidenberg is an associate professor with the Department of Anthropology at the University of Maryland.
Dr. Gail Thakur
Adjunct Professor, University of Maryland and American University. Dr. Thakur has worked on immigrant life histories in Prince George’s County, related to her interest in finding
opportunities for marginalized groups to create self-expression for positive outcomes.
Maria Walsh
University of Maryland volunteer who serves as liaison to the Ethnology of the Immigrant Life Course. Mrs. Wlash, originally from Mexico, assits students in all aspects of their placement with service organizations in the neighborhoods surrounding College Park, MD.
Lillian Torres
Manager of Development Operations at the World Resources Institute, an environmental think tank based in Washington, D.C. Ms. Torres earned her Masters of Applied Anthropology (2009) from the University of Maryland where she explored the use of visual anthropology in communicating complex issues regarding the history of immigration and the immigrant experience.
Amy Carattini
Ph.D. student in socio-cultural anthropology, University of Maryland. Ms. Carattini is currently in the process of completing Maryland’s Certificate Program in Museum Scholarship and Material Culture, exploring photographic representations in combination with immigrant life histories.
Aaron Kutnick
Recent graduate of the sociology honors program at the University of Maryland. Mr. Kutnick’s senior thesis explored the use of visual research methodologies within the new ethnographic approach towards qualitative research. A sample of his visual work can be found here. Mr. Kutnick also designed the Anthropology of the Immigrant Life Course website.
Jenna Hall
Graduate of the anthropology honors program at University of Maryland. Ms. Hall’s senior thesis explored the media and internet discourse of immigrants in Maryland.
Tina Zarpur
Ph.D. student in socio-cultural anthropology. Ms. Zarpur is currently conducting dissertation research on the Iranian diasporic community focusing on the San Diego enclaves.
Marcia Bebianno Simoes
Ph.D. student in American Studies. She is currently conducting dissertation research focusing on Latina immigrants in Maryland who are domestic workers.
